Global effects of covid-19

Did you know that covid-19 had killed up to 2,029,084 people by 19 January 2021, which is equivalent to 3% of the total world population? This is according to World Health Organization.

The Covid-19 disease originated in December 2019, Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. This virus has caused untold effects on the entire universe.

Increase poverty and inequalities at a global scale

The pandemic has increased poverty and inequality across the globe. In its early days, there was partial and total lockdown in different countries in the world, this led to total job loss among many people, and it also did present opportunities to those who were into business to provide personal protective equipment.

How does it increase inequality? Is COVID-19 only hurt the very end of the distribution or does it affect the middle class also class? The latter is true; covid-19 affects both the middle class and lower class. It widened the gap between these classes and the upper class.

Livelihood and food security

Livelihood was interrupted, people’s business went down. There was fear all over and this impacted even food security since production could not take place.

Labor force

A healthy population is productive, covid-19 made people stay away from work with only those who could work from home. Further, it hit different categories of people interfering with their wellbeing. The labor force was disrupted.

Rent and housing

In the wake of the pandemic, many people lost jobs, those living in urban set-up mostly tenants faced difficulties in paying rent, their houses were locked. Property owners also could not collect rent from tenants making them face untold suffering. Many people also moved from urban

Urban-Rural Migration

The pandemic led to many people moving from urban to rural since they had lost jobs and couldn’t fend for their families

Transport

Transport is affected so much; many airlines collapsed borders were closed so people couldn’t even go beyond borders. Road transport was hit badly, new rules were set to minimize the contact between passengers and it led to increase in the cost of transport.

Conclusion

The effect of covid-19 is huge, although caution has been done by different governments a lot still needs to be done. People should embrace it as the new normal and live with it since it is here to stay.

People should be cautious to avoid being exposed. Covid-19 is beatable. We can all live!
